Where to find help

Where to seek (or find) help

Access to information and extra support is important when you are experiencing mental health difficulties. Here are some useful resources and links to get you started.

Immediate Help

If you or someone you know is feeling suicidal, experiencing a crisis or are in need of immediate help please contact one of the 24/7 services listed here immediately.

Your General Practitioner (GP)

Your GP is a great place to start. If you think you might be suffering from a mental health issue, or just want to explore your options for support, make an appointment with your local GP.

GP’s will often perform a general check-up or assessment to see whether you require additional support. From there, they can refer you to an appropriate psychologist or a psychiatrist. If required, they may also prescribe medication to help you with your symptoms.

Professional Mental Health Support

Psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers and other mental health workers are trained in areas such as depression & anxiety. You may like to obtain a Mental Health Care plan from your GP which will lower the cost of visiting a mental health professional.

You can find a psychologist in your local area by visiting the Australian Psychological Society’s ‘Find a Psychologist’ page

Beyond Blue also has an extensive directory of people that can help
